Verizon IndyCar Series teams headed to ISM Raceway for open test

Verizon IndyCar Series teams will participate in an open test session at ISM Raceway in Avondale, Arizona (formerly Phoenix Raceway), from Feb. 8-10 in anticipation of the 2018 season opener in March. Twenty-three cars are expected to take part in testing on the 1.022-mile oval.

In addition to the on-track testing, a host of other events are scheduled in which media are invited. The schedule is as follows (all times are local to ISM Raceway, which is Mountain Time):

Wednesday, Feb. 7:

  • “The Amazing Race” viewing party with Verizon IndyCar Series drivers and show participants Conor Daly and Alexander Rossi, 6-10 p.m., location to be determined.

Thursday, Feb. 8:

  • Verizon IndyCar Series rookie oval testing, 1-5 p.m.

Friday, Feb. 9: 

  • “Sports Business Arizona: A Prix View of Things to Come,” a symposium on the regional impact of sports. Guest speakers include: Mark Miles, CEO, Hulman & Company; Steve Patterson, CEO, Arizona Coyotes NHL franchise; Dan Towriss, CEO, Group One Thousand One; Steve Leach, chairman, Fiesta Bowl; Michael Andretti, CEO, Andretti Autosport; and Zach Veach, Andretti Autosport Verizon IndyCar Series driver; 9 a.m.-noon, ISM Raceway Hospitality Club, Curve (ISM Raceway will provide transportation for media from the media center and buffet lunch will be served);
  • Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing announcement, co-owner Bobby Rahal and driver Graham Rahal, noon, media center;
  • Verizon IndyCar Series open test, first session, 1-4 p.m.;
  • Andretti Autosport media availability, drivers Marco Andretti, Ryan Hunter-Reay, Alexander Rossi and Zach Veach, 4:30 p.m., media center;
  • Team Penske media availability, drivers Josef Newgarden, Simon Pagenaud and Will Power, 5 p.m., media center;
  • Verizon IndyCar Series open test, second session, 6-9 p.m.

Saturday, Feb. 10:

  • Verizon IndyCar Series open test, third session, 1-4 p.m.;
  • INDYCAR media availability, INDYCAR Race Director Kyle Novak and INDYCAR President of Competition and Operations Jay Frye, 4:30 p.m., media center;
  • Verizon IndyCar Series driver autograph session, 4:45-5:30 p.m., ISM Raceway DC Solar Power Pavilion;
  • Verizon IndyCar Series open test, fourth session, 6-9 p.m.
